Us as selfless people?

I spent the afternoon at Starbucks reading technical papers on the internal stability of filter materials for an assignment due in the upcoming week. I was having a hard time concentrate because there were these two Taiwanese girls sitting beside me, loudly discussing matters which I thought were very personal. Maybe they didn't think anybody would understand because they were speaking in Mandarin, but I sure did! It was hard not to eavesdrop on their conversation. I could tell (I didn't have to listen very hard) that one of the girls was about to get married. The same girl was also worried that she could be pregnant. Her friend was giving her advice. I was disturbed by their conversation because from it there was no hint of concern for the well-being of the potentially growing child in the girl's womb. "You could choose to have the child, since you're getting married anyways. Your parents would accept that. Actually, they might even be happy. But, it's really not the right timing. ", her friend was saying. Funny thing is, I can see myself being in that conversation about a year or two ago - I will have a child when I am ready to have one. But what about God's timing? Or God's love for each of his creation, despite of us humans' carelessness or our 'plans'. What about the innocent child in the womb, who has been forever robbed the chance of living his/her God-given life? This is forever a subject of debate and controversy. I had always thought I would be left with no choice but to have an abortion if I had gotten pregnant when I obviously hadn't planned on it. But after knowing God and his love, of realizing how precious life is and how he has created each of us uniquely, I really don't think I could ever go through with it. I guess I've started to think more for others. To pray for others, to think 'How can I help him/her?". I want to be selfless, as Jesus was. Although, I am far from it...

Thinking about my future spouse (been having lots of thoughts about that lately), something suddenly occurred to me. I hope I can find someone that I will able to love, as Christ has commanded us to love. Someone who I'll be able to support and help love and know God more. It's hard to explain, but instead of thinking about what I wanted the person to be, I thought about what we could be to each other in God's blessings. There's a certain joy one can find in being a selfless person, and though our inherent nature is to be selfish, I sometimes taste a hint or that in the way I am with others. Though, I do feel that Christ is changing me into a more selfless person though. The miraculous works of our God! He is awesome :o)

Finally hung up the pictures on my walls. They have been down since I painted the walls over a year ago. Jackie told me about Starfield, a praise and worship band from Manitoba, Canada. I've listened to a few of their songs and I like Shipwreck, as well as Son of God.
