Thankful :)

As I sit here today and try to blog, I have no new revelations about God to reveal. I think back to the past 3 years or so (since my confirmation) and I am amazed at how much God has worked in my life and the lives of my family (as well as others around me). The last few months of my life have been an amazing period of spiritual growth. I have experienced both God's love and judgment, and have come to walk much closer with the LORD than ever before.

So many things to be thankful for. I used to be one who worries, who wants to be in control of everything in my life. As Walter Brueggemann so aptly put it, "Theology is learning the art of departure" (or something along those lines). I couldn't agree with it more. God's Grace and Mercy have been poured upon our lives, we just need to open our hands to receive it. I can see the work that God is doing not only in my life, but the lives of those in my family. We have been through tough times, yes. But God never left us. I was thinking the other day, that perhaps once you make a promise to God. Or rather, once you open up yourself to let Jesus into your life, he's here to stay. No matter how "bad" of a Christian one becomes after he/she is baptised (accepts Christ), God is continuing his work in our hearts, in our lives. John Calvin got it right with this predestination stuff - we cannot work for our salvation but must receive it with open hands. Today, I think about the uncertain future with excitement and wonderment of where God will lead me.

The past months have been hard emotionally, but have also been some of the most spiritually growing times for me, as I mentioned before. Looking back, I am so completely thankful for all my brothers and sisters in Christ who, in my times of heartache and suffering, never tried to 'make things better'. They prayed with me, they suffered with me, they sat in silence with me. I don't think any of them tried to say anything shallow that to make me feel better. Instead, they empathized. Now that I feel like I am just about alright again, I think of them and I praise God for the family in Christ that I have :)

So, I am grateful tonight. I am thankful for God's goodness and faithfulness! Thank you God, that we never had to earn your love. Thank you for choo choo choo choosing us (ha, for you Simpsons fans!) to be your children. Thank you for running after us and bringing us to your side. Safe in the arms of Jesus, I will not be afraid. And I press on...

What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things
