For Everything There is a Season

I wanted to spend tonight writing my testimony for Saturday's chairperson sharing time. Instead, I found myself with major writer's block and was unable to produce anything beyond two very generic and boring paragraphs, the first of which starts off with an introductory sentence of "Hi, my name is Debbie and I am the new chairperson of C&C".

It's not that my head is void of any thoughts, but it because there is a lot going on in my head right now that I cannot focus on writing my testimony, mostly because of all the transitions that are currently going on in my life. As of now, I am sitting on the TV room sofa, surrounded by boxes filled with my new roommate's things. And tomorrow, my 'old' roommate of 2 years, Ah-Ju (or Julie, if you're boring.....hehe) will be leaving for Taiwan. I had known that she was going to leave at the end of the summer for a while now, but I don't think the reality of it really kicked in till tonight. It is strange thinking that tomorrow night she will no longer be here, with her gentle mannerism, her warm smile , and her quiet wisdom - all that used to found conveniently in the bedroom next door.

I feel really sad that Julie is leaving the house. Without a doubt, she has been the best roommate I have ever had (sorry to the others). Perhaps it's because through her encouragement, I have come to walk closely with God. About a year ago, around the same time, I had thought Julie was going to leave for LA and had blogged about my thoughts on her leaving. Little did I know, God is good and decided that we would be roommates for another year. Perhaps we both still had things to learn from each other, perhaps there were people in Vancouver we still needed to tend to together. In the past year, I went through some very difficult times in my personal and family life, and I am so grateful that Julie was there, to pray with me, and to pray for me when I didn't have the strength. I will never forget the time when I had just broken up with my ex-boyfriend. I had been feeling extremely guilty about the way I treated him and couldn't stop crying. Julie read Psalm 51 with me, and prayed with me. She has seen me at my worst, and at my best. At times, she has been my best friend.

I could go on and blog about all the good times we had together, but I am tired tonight and don't want to splurge on sentimental details. I will keep those memories in my heart, and thank God for the past two awesome years. I feel that this is a good ending, but also a hopeful beginning to something new. Without Julie around, I will need to fully trust and rely on God. I no longer have someone to run to for answers, but instead would have to ask God directly. In a way, I am looking forward to see how he will guide and lead me. I don't think that Julie and I became roommates out of chance, but out of the divine love of God. Thank you God for your providence. In the last years I have been transformed, you have saved my life.
