Change is in the air. Perhaps it's the start of another school year, but there seems to be a lot of changes going on lately, both in my personal life and at my church. But church is such a big part of my life, so I guess you could say overall, many things are different now.
For starters, I have a new roommate and she is completely different from J (more on that later!). Also, we have a new youth worker (supervisor) for C&C! Her name is Alice and I haven't met her yet, we will all meet her tomorrow night. I only found out about her this morning, when I was woken up by Pastor Shieh's phone call (embarrassingly at 9AM I was still in bed, ha!). She is from Singapore and can speak English, Mandarin, Fujian (similar to Taiwanese), Japanese, and Korean. She has had experience in leadership training and bible teaching and her specialty is spiritual formation. I couldn't really believe what I was hearing from Parker, but it sounded like she would bring with her some good things to the fellowship. In fact, she sounds a little bit over-qualified. But, I am curious and excited to find out more about her and her story, and more so, why she chose us! I also think that spiritual formation is exactly what C&C needs. I don't want to comment too much because I haven't met her and I don't know how things will go, but I thank God because from the description of her it almost feels like she is a prayer answered - 從天上掉下來的. Stay tuned, we will find out more tomorrow. But I am confident that God has listened to our prayers and provided good things :)
The week after my roommate left, I thought I would be quite sad and depressed. Ju had been a huge support in my spiritual walk over the last 2 years. I knew my new roommate already, but I felt that things weren't going to be the same. I am so thankful to God, because I felt like as soon as Julie left, God brought so many people to me to "keep my company" in this time of transition. Right after the send off at the airport, 4 others came with me to shop for all the things we needed for the care package. Going with other people to shop for things from 4-5 different locations was definitely a lot better (and even fun!) than going alone. God is so good to me. Then, after the weekend on Sunday, I had many kind volunteers come over to my place to continue working on the care package. The house was full of people and laughter. By the end of the night after everyone had left, I was tired and needed my alone time. Though I (and we all do, I'm sure) missed Ju, I never felt a wink of loneliness because I was surrounded by my brothers and sisters from C&C. I thought, "Hm, God is very good to me!"
I had known my new roommate, K 小姐, from Regent College, but not extremely well. So I wasn't really sure what to expect. It has only been a little over a week since she's moved in but so far things have been great. K is completely different from Ju, but already I feel like there is a lot I can learn from K. God is so good, bringing different people into my lives to help me grow, in many sorts of different ways, also making me realize just how much room I have to grow still! K is older than me (I think... can never be too sure!) and she lived in the UK for many years before coming to Regent College in Vancouver. Already I have learned many practical things about how to clean the house, and other tidbits of knowledge on house keeping (K: Did you know that you can hang your wet towels here? D: Uh... really? Wow! & K: If you flatten out your towels to dry, it will eliminate the smell. D: Oh really? Wow!!!). K has braved the cleaning of my fridge, microwave, and oven, and I keep wanting to take pictures because I am amazed by how spotless everything is! K is also passionate about teaching the word of God to others, and isn't afraid to voice her opinion on something if it goes against her faith principles, even if it makes people feel a little bit agitated. But K, with her straight and strict exterior, is very kind She has cooked and cleaned for me already, simply because I said I was tired. I feel like she is my older sibling, my mother, taking care of me, teaching me lots of things, and listening to me when I have questions/problems. God is so good to provide another good roommate for me. Thank you God, you really listen to prayers!
