Last night I saw on the news that the sister of a man, made a quadriplegic (had to look this word up in google!) by a vicious beating, made a statement to the men who were responsible in court. She said that to say she hates them would not be enough, and that the only satisfaction she will get is to know that one day they will die and will receive what they deserve on judgment day. I felt saddened by the hatred and bitterness in her message. Haven't we been called to forgive? And doesn't healing only come with forgiveness? However, I am a hypocrite to think these thoughts. Have I always forgiven the people in my life who have hurt me? Actually, I have a personal struggle with forgiveness. When someone has hurt you deeply or hurt the ones you love deeply, how do you go about forgiving them? Indeed we have been forgiven by Christ of the sins we've committed, but when it comes to forgiving others, boy it is HARD! I think it's probably just as hard as loving your enemy. Yet we are called to do so... I prayed for forgiveness, for the family of the quadriplegic man, for myself, for others, for everyone. Later, I was browsing and came across a series of videos which were interviews of Mother Teresa. When I clicked on the one named God's Mercy, I wasn't really sure what to expect. After watching it I knew God had spoken to me.
It's funny how when you start to develop a relationship with God, and you come to think about him and all his wonders all the time. I mostly on my way to and from UBC, during my time on the bus, or walking to the big E from the bus stop... Then you start to notice that as you grow closer to him you are able to hear his voice more and more clearly. There's nothing 'miraculous' about it. No deep voice calls out to me from the parting clouds, no ants spelling out messages on the ground. Instead though, God speaks to me in the most ordinary ways, just as a good friend would. Often it is through the mouth of others. Other times it may be a song on the radio, or a sentence or two from a piece of writing. You see God is not 'up there' but among us. As we get to know him more, and walk closer alongside him, his messages for us become loud and clear :o)
