What makes us fall far from God?

For the past few days I've felt somewhat disconnected from God. It is ironic because I have been spending a lot of time at Regent College studying, yet I feel that he's been distant. Perhaps it is the business of studying, perhaps it's because it's because some personal issues have been plaguing my mind, perhaps it's because I've gotten comfortable with being someone who is "devoted" that I forgot to keep trying.

I noticed that when we focus too much on ourselves, we forget about God. That sounds like a redundant statement. But many of us fall trap to it all the time. How many times do we let other things come between God and ourselves? Personally, I feel like I've given in to the temptation of being centered around myself. I've spent the last little while worrying about what I should or should not be doing given circumstances and forgot to spend time praying to God and asking him to help me out. I have sought advice from others, but have failed to pray full heartedly about things with them, and by myself. Is it when we start hypothesizing, analyzing, and discussing without inviting God into the conversation that we start to drift away from him, we start wanting to wear the crowns, start thinking again that we are the master of our own lives.

Just because I spend all my time at a Christian school, just because the ones I'm closest to are all Christians, just because I'm thinking about taking courses at VST/Regent does not mean I don't have to work hard at my relationship with God. Those things are nice, but can give a false sense of security. I have to give him my time, he is to be my priority! But that is so hard to do, with all the distractions in life! I hope and pray that tomorrow I can do a little better ;o)

LinkCharlie, you've replaced Jesse as the definition of CLASSY! Haha ;)

Thank you God, for Charlie and Jesse. Thank you for how different they are and thank you for the joy they bring me. They always make me smile, even in hard times.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of the earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace

As you journey through the wilderness of temptation, Christ's victory is yours.

What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things
