To find strenght in the LORD our God

I had to make myself open up the bible today! Over the holidays I had neglected my daily devotions. My lack of faith came as a bit of a shock to me. Was I the same person whose heart had been so filled with zeal and love for God that I would spend hours thinking about him each day? Was I the same person who couldn't wait to pray at night? Was I the same person who just wanted to do what pleased God? I admit I am at a spiritual low these days. I find myself longing to be close to God, yet feeling unmotivated to do anything about it. So tonight I remembered how at a book study a few years back, we had talked about how our spiritual journeys in life are like running marathons. In other words, they ain't all gonna be a walk in the park. Sometimes the harsh realities of the world, of life, hit us, and we become bogged down with distress and become discouraged, or even angry, and questionable, towards God. So I remembered that our walk with God is one that would require effort on our part. God has delivered to us his Grace, but we have to work hard if we want to build a serious relationship with him. And man is it ever hard at times. But I trudge on...

Today's devotion was an encouraging one:

In what ways can we strengthen, encourage, or refresh ourselves in the Lord when we're feeling discouraged?
First, we can remember what God has done - count his blessings.
Second, we can remember what God has promised - that he would never leave us no matter where we go.

I believe that God is my truth. And in this life, my deepest desire is to do what pleases him. As long as I know that I am doing what is good in his eyes (all that I should be doing) my heart is content.

What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things
