As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come follow me", Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him. When they had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him. - Mark 1:16-20
Today's daily devotion from RBC Ministry really spoke to me. I asked my roommate tonight, "Why do I find myself coming across the similar message or the same scripture passages lately? Is it simply because I've been studying more theology, reading the bible consistently, and attending more church services? Or perhaps God is speaking to me." And as I type this, I am thinking that it may be both! How can I know the voice of God, and be in a position to know what he's saying to me, if I don't do all those things?
The root of my faith is growing deeper. As I see it, roots may encounter many soils types (here I am using my favourite way of analyzing things again... hehe) - some are denser and more compact, while others are softer and looser. Our growing faiths is like roots pushing its way deeper into the earth. The deeper the roots, the taller the plant will grow. The more grounded our faith, the closer to God we become. I am not a botanist so I could be totally wrong! But to the average lay non-botanist that I am, this makes sense to me :) But to be grounded - to know oneself well and to understand and be immersed in this world (and its numerous turns of events) that is God's, to have relationships with God's people, Christians and non-Christians alike - this is how I truly hope to be. This is the point from where I want to radiate and take-in the part of Christ in me, and the God to be continually known and discovered.
More than I ever I want to follow Jesus. It's as if I have been hearing God's call more clearly and with more punctuation lately. I want to discover who he (Jesus) is. I had always felt that I was "in-tuned" with the Father and the Holy Spirit, but that I didn't know Jesus well enough. He became fully human, so he is the closest of the trinity for myself to personally relate to. And I am a person who likes relationships, who likes to relate to others (come to think of it, who doesn't!). And it's quite exciting for me to think of how much of Jesus I still don't know, and how much there is to know. But most exciting of all is the fact that he is still with us today and everyday. He is the ultimate gift to us from the Father, he's the gift that keeps on giving ;)
