Between him and I

Julie and I had E over for dinner. We made pizza and a salad - it was absolutely gourmet and delicious, not bad for a meal that feeds four under 20 dollars. Andy joined us as well. Through dinner E shared with us the journey in which he came back to Christ. I saw his face glow with zeal as he spoke about his experience, and thought, "Wow, he reminds me of myself about a year ago (around the time that I started this blog)". It was inspiring listening to him, of how God personally touched his life and his heart, and about how delightful it is that each Christian will experience God and a walk of faith that is uniquely their own. At one point during the night I mentioned that in one of the papers I had to read for spiritual discernment, the author talked about each one of us having a "unique religious identity". God is so wonderfully mysterious and infinitesimally awesome, mere humans will never have him "figured out". This is why we have devout religious fathers/mothers having various opinions on what our God is and isn't (the non-essentials of course, for those of you who were at the retreat..hehe). God's relationship with each and every single one of us is so radically different and so remarkably and particularly between him and "I". It is always good to listen to another's personal experience, and to know that we have our own to relish (the thousands of moments in which God has touched us that wisps inside our hearts), and to know that we are all living under the great umbrella of One Father's sovereign love, grace, and faithfulness.

What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things
