Another day went by, and God has once again been, without fail, faithful. Yesterday was a wonderful day full of His surprises. But I wasn't sure what today was going to hold, as I woke up melancholy. After prayer and breakfast, a friend suddenly asked if I wanted a ticket to the theatre for a show that I wanted to watch but hadn't really put any serious effort into getting tickets. "A belated birthday present," he said, "You can have it, don't worry about the cost." Thank you God! You are so good to me. I didn't even have to ask, but merely have the thought of wanting to go, and you graciously provided.
The rest of the day, I felt wrapped in God's arms. I was able to get together with two friends to pray in a beautiful prayer room, I chatted with some old friends I hadn't seen in a while, I got to see the beautiful artwork of Tim Botts :) Check him out, his work is quite something!
At the public lecture tonight, Maxine Hancock talked about how Christians can embrace aging in an anti-aging, youth & beauty-glorifying secular world. It was excellent and many of what she said touched my heart. In particular, she says that one thing older adults (not seniors!) can do is to look back on their lives and recount how good God's been. In the old days, some people were trained to keep a spiritual journal - and often it's a good way of reminding ourselves of the goodness of God throughout our lives - for it's so easy for us to be pulled back into the things of the secular world - it's standards, desires, chasing after false idols... Hmm, I thought, that is kind of like my blog. Indeed, I want to keep a record of God's goodness, and he's certainly been very very good to me.
I thank God for my friends and family, my brothers and sisters in Christ who I walk this spiritual journey alongside with. I don't know what I would do or where I would be without their prayers (and when I was a lost lamb I'm sure I was prayed for, so through working with God through prayer I was brought back before Him). The past few months have been a difficult time in my life (but life is often difficult!) but have been the most spiritually enhancing as well. I remember writing in my blog maybe a year or two ago and raving about how my spiritually had grown exponentially. Well, the past few months, in comparison, must have been an exponential on top of an exponential. Tonight Maxine said that we can offer up our suffering - loneliness, sadness, disapointments, guilt - up to God as a prayer. It is in times of distress that we grow closer to God. To that I say Amen.
God has been so faithful, walking with me through the shadowed valleys. He has given me peace and joy. Tonight while sitting and listening to the lecture, I was filled with gratitude. I'm glad I have God in my life. Though the things in the secular world may look so shiny and bright, I know in my heart that I would rather have Jesus. There's a joy in Christ that I have gladly received that is more awesome than anything else I know. So I wait upon the LORD, however long it will take for him to shape and mould me, for him to reveal his will for me (once it is revealed I'm sure I won't miss it!), I wait, because I will not have anything else other than Jesus at the LORD of my life ;)
Better is one Day in your courts God, than thousands elsewhere!
