It is easy to fall as preys to our loneliness. I have made my commitment to Christ a long time ago, have declared my love for him and my dedication to him. It would be a completely hypocritical act if I became involved with someone who was not a Christian. It is shocking to realize the shallowness of my faith when I easily start to get pulled away by the attention of someone attractive. But the question I ask myself is, what exactly is the attraction? Perhaps it is merely a reflection of my heart's condition, and the desire for instant gratification from this desolation that I am experiencing. Have you ever known that doing something was wrong, but still went ahead and did it?
I feel like the spiritual battle has just begun, and following Christ is (as I've mentioned before) not thing to take lightly. Too many people call themselves Christians without knowing what it means. It means that we believe Jesus is LORD. And if that is what we truly believe, how can we take his commandments only half-heartedly?
I've been reading another one of Henry Nouwen's works, and am surprised at how accurately he describes my emotions and feelings, and the emotions and feelings of those around me. This encourages me, that what I feel is normal, is human. Phewf, I am not the only lunatic around (haha) feeling like my heart is so full it's about to explode.
I once was blind, but now I see. We know God has conquered death. Yet, this work is not done and the evil one controls the world. Therefore the desperate cry of my heart, and ardent prayer of my soul, is for God to give me the strength to keep my eyes focused on the LORD. At times I feel the surge of temptation coming on, and I want to give up. Go with the world - get that high-paying job, become friendly with a handsome and successful man, enjoy life at its fullest. On the flip side, there is the less glamorous and much harder road to take (the grouse grind of spiritual life, if you will, or rather, the Himalayas!). I want to take the latter - courageously walk down the latter knowing the God who creates the universe walks with me every step of the way.
