Since becoming a Christian, I have come a long way. I still remember the days that I would wake up after a night of partying, still hung-over and headache-y, and going to church because I had to preside that day... The thought is somewhat scary to me now. And ever since I have become more and more serious about my faith, many of the old habits and lifestyles have gone away. Even in the past 3 months, I have come to understand more fully of the good in God's commands, albeit through painful confession of the past. I have mentioned in my previous entries that I sense the Lord calling me to live a holy and acceptable life before Him. But I've often wrestled with the thought, of whether or not I really am good enough to serve Him. I, who have sinned so very much.
At the UGM volunteer orientation, I learned that the New York City Rescue Mission (affiliated somehow with the start of UGM) was started by a river thief and a prostitute, who both turned their lives around because of Christ. In scripture today I read again the story of Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene, a woman (in the days when women had little status) of a sinful past. I think of Paul the Apostle, who prior to Damascus, was a persecutor of Christians. Joanne, the woman who gave the UGM orientation, said that it is amazing who God uses. Yes, God does use the most unexpected people. The saints of our times have usually not been born in Royal Families. They were more often ordinary, just like you and I. They were sinners, just like you and I. But I believe they too, just like me, experienced God's awesomeness and most importantly, his LOVE. God's love can transform us.
Tonight, after somewhat of a somber mood day, I became filled with joy after prayer with a sister. I remembered God's promise to keep us from harm. I remembered His promise to honour those who honour Him. I remembered the stories in the bible, and how Jesus loved the sinners (it is the sick who need medicine, not the well!). I remembered Christ died so that we can live, and how He conquered even death, so we will have eternal life! Thank you God, for filling my heart. I will always remember you :)
