A Bloggin' about God's Goodness

A lot has been happening in my life that has been blog-worthy, but I have just been too busy to document it all. With the busyness, I am struggling to keep my devotion life on track. And I feel God asking me to spend more time with him each day in prayer and meditation. But perhaps writing in this blog could also be a form of reflective prayer. Nevertheless, I am back tonight and hopefully my brain isn't too fried to share a little bit of what God's been doing in my life.

Lately I have been running on an overdose of joyfulness. I shouldn't use overdose because the word has negative connotation, but I couldn't think of another to better describe my state. I find myself smiling all the time, skipping down the streets, I even caught myself doing little hops while talking to people after the service (I am a huge dork!). As we wind down the summer, I look back and think what a fantastically growing summer it has been. Things started at a low point and are (we've got a few more weeks left) ending on a high note. I have the Lord to thank, who walked with me through this dark valley. But overall, I cannot remember the last time (or if ever) I have felt so at peace in my life. Funny, because I always thought I would feel at peace when everything was finally OK. Well, things around me haven't really changed all that much. The new skytrain started running today, and the boys have lost 1kgs each. Other than that, I have become the new chairperson of C&C. Still, these are not big changes, they are just everyday life stuff. What's different I think, is the mighty presence of God in my life.

The closer I walk with God, the closer I come to realize and experience the power of truth of his words. God Honours those who honour him. For those who strive to follow Christ and to live righteously before him, both in heart and in outward actions, will receive the abundant blessings that he wishes to give them. The more I pray, I know that as I bring myself into the sacred place where I meet the Lord, he is changing my heart to will the wills of his own, but not mine. Then, I am delighted and amazed when he grants me my 'heart's desires' (Psalm 37:4).

The other day I was driving to a friend's house early in the morning. I stopped at the red light at before Oak on 41st. I saw a woman with down syndrome limping across the street. She was carrying a bag, and it looked like she was going somewhere. Suddenly, I thought that she was absolutely beautiful! What an amazing creation of God's. To others she is 'handicapped' but for some reason to my eyes that morning she was a wonderful creature, so unique and so full of life. She was different from most of us, but here she was, living her life which God gave. Just to be alive, is something to celebrate. As with our friends and family, we ought to love them just because they are them, as God has made them. Jesus must have been sitting in the passenger seat of my car that morning :)

As I bussed home today after my swim at the UBC outdoor pool (totally awesome there today!), with the breeze and the sun on my face I thought to myself, "One day when I am married, I am really going to miss this. I am really going to miss being single and having the freedom to do whatever I wish, to see whoever I want, and to go wherever I can." I have always longed to be in a relationship that I have never had a thought quite like this one before, but here it was. And I felt OK to be alone, I felt happy :) Julie and Julia last night further inspired me to wait upon the Lord for the right one who will sweep me off my feet. God is faithful, he will bring that man into my life. And when he does, I suspect God will have to convince me that I should give up my singlehood :) As an emotionally needy person I have never felt like this before in my entire life. Perhaps it's because my relationship with God has somewhat filled that deep longing, and need to be intimately close with someone...

I have nothing 'important' to say tonight (but do I ever, other than my praises to God!). I don't have any opinions to give or any major self-God-reflections/discoveries to announce. All I want to say is that God is really so good and faithful. I am filled with Christ's joy today, and felt myself so complete as I lied in that 'Holy Place' in the sauna room at UBC (ask me if you want to know about this one, hehe). I know what I have money can't buy, because it's free. I have hope that God will be my shepherd and my rock through the good and bad times of my life. I fear not.
