I have been listening to a song by the Dixie Chicks called "Voice inside my head" (excuse the cheesy soap opera video, try to close your eyes when you listen and just listen to the words). I actually never listened to the lyrics closely before but after I did I realized that the song was about a woman who had to give up her child either through abortion. When I looked it up it said that the woman gave her child away, but some argue that she had an abortion. It's a very powerful song, because it is about a very personal issue. I'm sure a lot of women in the world can relate to it.
"Voice Inside My Head"
I was only a kid
When I said goodbye to you
Ten summers ago
But it feels like yesterday
Lost, scared and alone
Nothing I could give to you
I tried, I really did
But I couldn't find another way
And I want and I need
Somehow to believe
In the choice I made
Am I better off this way
I can hear the voice inside my head
Saying you should be with me instead
Every time I'm feeling down, I wonder
What would it be like with you around
So I, I made my way
Cold and roaming in the wild
I'm forever changed
By someone I never knew
Now I've, I've got a place
I've got a husband and a child
But I'll never forget
What I've given up in you
And I want, I need
Somehow to believe
In the choice I made
Am I better off this way
I can hear the voice inside my head
Saying you should be with me instead
Every time I'm feeling down, I wonder
What would it be like with you around
And I want, I need
Somehow to believe
In the choice I made
Am I better off this way
The sermon at Presby Chapel today was also about voices. It was about the voice of God, spoken through the people around us - a family member, a friend, or even a stranger. It made me excited knowing that God speaks to me everyday, through those around me, or even public figures that I may hear on the TV or the radio. I hope that as I walk closer to him I will be able to hear him more clearly and frequently. Actually I'm sure he speaks to me everyday but I just haven't developed the sense to catch his words yet. Something I'm eagerly willing to improve and look forward to :o)
Tomorrow is Byron's birthday and we're having a dinner pot luck at our place. Julie and I made a chicken curry casserole with broccoli tonight. We were good enough not to eat any because the baked casserole looked so perfect in its dish that we didn't want to dig a giant hole in it (or maybe we were just afraid we'd go nuts and finish 1/3 of it tonight...haha!). I have been so blessed by God to have grown closer to my church family, and to gain many new friends this year. I remember being worried about being lonely and having no friends when one after another my close girlfriends moved away from Vancouver. I was so foolish, because God's love was there all along. He was always going to provide. Of the three years that I've lived in Vancouver after Queen's, I have never felt so un-lonely, so to speak. It's true that he will always give you so much more than you ever ask for. Even for someone like me, who strayed far away from God, he still brought me back to his house and gave abundantly and freely. I wish that more would come to know and accept this amazing love of our amazing God.
